Frequently asked questions
Why should I SmartShop?
Buying in bulk means fewer trips to the Supermarket thus saving you time and petrol. Less time spent in Supermarkets, means fewer impulse purchases. Shopping in a Supermarket is a visual experience - we are often coaxed into buying things that we see, but don't really need. SmartShopping removes this dynamic, and this, together with our discount prices could save you hundreds of rand each month.
I still need to go to the Supermarket for items not stocked by SmartShopping - so wouldn't it be easier to get all my groceries at once?
Smartshopping takes away the hassle of supermarket shopping - because most of your groceries are delivered straight into your kitchen by SmartShopping, your trips to the Supermarket are quick, focused and easy - the size of your shop is smaller and less groceries means fewer bags to carry from your car to your kitchen. By SmartShopping you can do away with those big, time consuming exhausting monthly shops!
I can shop on line for my groceries with other Supermarkets - why should I use SmartShopping?
Many of our products are very price competitive offering you great savings. Our product quality is comparable and in many instances superior to these Supermarkets. There is no delivery charge and our on line shopping experience is unique and user friendly offering you value for money every time.
As I am shopping, I see that the checkout slip shows me a saving - what does this mean?
Prices of comparable products at comparable Supermarkets are surveyed once a quarter and these comparatives are stored against each product. As you shop we calculate what you would have paid had you shopped at your normal grocery store - this is your Smart Saving! As some products do not have direct comparatives, no price comparatives are stored for them. Where a SmartShopping item is more expensive, this information is stored too - so we give you an honest estimate of your saving. NOTE: the Smart Saving does not include the cost of delivery levied by other on line retailers - if this was added your saving would actually be in the region of R60 more than what is displayed.
How can I trust the product quality of items delivered?
Our Unique Trust Policy and Quality Guaranteed promise give you the right to return goods that you are not satisfied with - this must be done in writing via an email to info@smartshopping.co.za within 48 hours of delivery. We will either credit you immediately, or arrange to collect the item from you and then pass a credit.
When will my shopping be delivered?
Delivery will be between 11h00 and 15h00 on the next business day after receiving payment. It is essential therefore that there is someone at home to receive the delivery during these hours. If delivery is outside of these times, we will call you first to confirm that we are delivery at a time outside these hours.
What happens if there is an item that I have ordered that is out of stock?
We have a very robust supply chain and stock levels are managed closely. However, if we are unable to supply an item you will be contacted prior to delivery and advised of this. If a substitute is available, you may accept this item and will be charged for it. The out of stock item(s) will be credited to your account.
I have paid for my groceries up front - how does it work if items are not delivered, or substituted by products of a different price, or if I have ordered variable mass items such as cheese or meat?
Certain of the Products are variable/random mass items. Whilst the average mass of the Product indicated on the SmartShopping Site is an estimation of the cost, the actual Product delivered to you may weigh slightly more or less than the average mass indicated. The Pro Forma Invoice generated at Checkout reflects this estimate. Within 24 hours of delivery, you will receive an Invoice that reflects the actual amount due in respect of the specific Product delivered. If there is a price discrepancy, this will either be:
a) Credited/debited to your next purchase and reflected as a balance brought forward on the checkout slip.
b) If your account is in credit, you may request that the balance is refunded to you, and on receipt of your banking details, the refund will be processed.
Can I buy fresh fruit and vegetables from SmartShopper?
No, we do not supply fresh fruit and vegetables yet. This may however change in the near future.
It seems like some of the branded items are not competitive with Supermarket prices. Why is this?
These items are offered purely for your convenience. We are however, in the process of negotiating with our suppliers in our effort to save you money. As our volumes increase, we will be able to negotiate volume discounts, and in terms of our Unique Trust Policy, these savings will be passed on to you.
What areas do you deliver to?
Currently our distribution is focused around the Southern Suburbs and Sun Valley areas, however when you register, you will see the exact suburbs we deliver to.
What if I don't live in these areas?
